Mindfulness is moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts and the surrounding environment. It’s when our minds are solely focused on the present moment and on what is being sensed during each moment. Being mindful is characterized mainly by acceptance — paying attention to our thoughts without judging them or wishing they were different in some way.
Staying mindful is something we try to work towards while traveling. To us, traveling mindfully means to be in a foreign place without comparing it to somewhere we’ve been in the past or thinking about our expectations for the future (whether it be about tomorrow’s plans or those possible in the years ahead). To simply remain in the present and appreciate it as much as possible.
It also means to live simply, with minimal mental and physical clutter that is caused by planning too much or carrying too many possessions. With this kind of travel, we move slowly with little focus on the future. Which is why when asked how long we will be gone, the answer is always “I don’t know”.
It’s an awesome and liberating feeling to allow yourself to live in the moment, without limitations, boundaries and expectations! Thank you to our friends and family for all your support. This site is intended for you to share in our experiences and also to inspire those who are interested in a life of travel.
